Arkansas Named No. 1 State for Inbound Movers in 2024

 December 19, 2024

Arkansas was the top state for inbound movers in 2024 according to a national migration study.

Atlas Van Lines named Arkansas as the no. 1 state for inbound movers on its 2024 Migration Patterns Study. Based on the study, Arkansas had the highest percentage of inbound movers in the nation with an inbound mover rate of 65% in 2024.

In its study, Atlas Van Lines noted that Arkansas was a “sought-after destination” with a high inbound mover rate and a low outbound mover rate of only 35%.

The Migration Patterns Study, conducted annually since 1993, measured moves that occurred between November 1, 2023 and October 31, 2024. The study examines interstate, interprovince and international moves handled by Atlas to determine inbound and outbound percentages of each state and other nations.

Each state’s inbound and outbound percentages were determined by the following criteria:

Each state’s, province’s, and country’s inbound/outbound status is determined by its threshold value, which is the total number of shipments multiplied by 0.55 (i.e., in a state with 100 moves, at least 55 must be outgoing to be considered outbound). All other states or provinces in which outbound or inbound numbers do not exceed the threshold are classified as balanced. Canadian interprovincial and cross-border (from the U.S. to Canada) shipments are both referenced in the study.

Arkansas has been a popular choice for individuals and families looking to relocate in recent years. In 2023, United Van Lines announced that Arkansas was the no. 4 top state for inbound movers. HireAHelper ranked Arkansas as the no. 1 state for inbound movers in 2022.
