Bekaert Expands Manufacturing Facility in Van Buren, Arkansas

 May 01, 2024

VAN BUREN, Ark. (May 1, 2024) – Bekaert Corporation is expanding its manufacturing facility in Van Buren, creating 38 new jobs in the region. Company executives, state officials, and local leaders gathered in Van Buren on Wednesday to announce the expansion.

As part of the expansion, the company is investing in the Van Buren factory to purchase new manufacturing equipment. This equipment will be used for supporting the electrical grid and telecommunications industries.

“Bekaert is thankful for the recognition and support of the AEDC, and many other leaders, to invest in the Van Buren community,” said Bryan Sullivan, vice president of steel wire solutions for Bekaert. “With this investment the community will see additional jobs, enhanced training and an advancement of manufacturing capabilities.  Bekaert is proud to support not just the local community but our national community as well.  The investment will be used to reenforce the backbone of the electrical grid, enhance access to renewable energy and bridge the digital divide in the US today.  Thank you to the AEDC and all the Arkansas leaders who have made this possible.”

A global leader in the steel wire transformation and coating technology sector, Bekaert produces steel wire and strands at the Van Buren facility. The company has operated in Van Buren since 1970.

“We are thrilled to welcome Bekaert’s latest expansion in Van Buren and the jobs and investment it will bring. Arkansas’ strong workforce, low taxes, and pro-business environment is spurring growth across our state – and as Governor, I’m committed to enacting more policies that help great companies like Bekaert continue to thrive,” said Governor Sanders.

This is the company’s latest expansion at its Van Buren facility. In November 2021, the company announced an expansion in Van Buren to increase its wire stranding production capabilities, which created 35 new jobs at the facility.

“This investment will enhance Bekaert’s Van Buren operation while also creating additional economic opportunities in the River Valley. The company’s continued expansion in Arkansas demonstrates the favorable business environment in our state and the excellent capabilities of our workforce,” Senator John Boozman said.

The facility expansion is currently underway and is expected to be completed in 2025.

“Van Buren is ground zero for exciting growth, and that’s because of innovative companies like Bekaert that choose to call it home. I was glad to see their work firsthand last week. This expansion is just the latest example of how Bekaert responds to the needs of our growing region by boosting the economy, providing jobs, and working to expand internet access across rural areas. I look forward to the new opportunities this project will deliver for the River Valley!,” said Congressman Steve Womack (AR-3).

“Bekaert sets the bar high for the steel wire industry, and we are excited that they continue to expand in Arkansas,” said Clint O’Neal, executive director of the Arkansas Economic Development Commission. “Van Buren is a great Arkansas community with a supportive business climate; congratulations to the local leadership on this economic development milestone.”

“Bekaert's latest expansion is great news for Van Buren on many levels,” said Van Buren Mayor Joseph Hurst. “Not only will Bekaert's investment improve the local economy, but it strengthens the company's overall commitment to this community.  Bekaert is a tremendous supporter of our community, and we look forward to many years ahead of collaboration and partnership.”

“Bekaert's expansion in Van Buren marks a significant milestone for our community and reflects their ongoing commitment to invest in our region's growth,” said Julie Murray, president and CEO of the Van Buren Chamber of Commerce. “This investment not only brings numerous new jobs but also reaffirms Van Buren’s commitment to fostering a business-friendly environment that supports growth, innovation, and prosperity. We are so grateful for Bekaert's continued partnership and investment in our community. We look forward to the positive impact it will have on our regional economy."
